My Adventures In Healthy Living: Whole 30

So, I'm not the healthiest of eaters. I have found over the last year that my relationship with sugary foods has gone from typical to fatal attraction. I'm not a super healthy person on top of it. I suffer from a pesky autoimmune disorder that leaves me in lots of pain, irritating allergies, as well as an (ahem) unhealthy weight. When first diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder, I tried some things to help alleviate the inflammation. But to really help, it was recommended that I cut out dairy and sugar in addition to my already gluten-free diet. Are you kidding me? I've already given up luscious, fluffy white bread, pastries, and lots of other things that apparently we sneak gluten into, but now you're telling me to get the dairy and sugar out of my diet too?!? Those are two essential ingredients to (edible) chocolate, you know. And getting rid of that could potentially be dangerous!

Over the last few months, I've come to the realization that I really need to cut ties with sugar and dairy. So it was to the inter webs I went in search of a HEALTHY way to do this. I know my self and how weak willed I am when it comes to food. If you are looking to go on a diet, do not come to me for support. When you start complaining that you can't have cake, I will most likely comfort you with said cake. I'm also lazy when it comes to portioning out food or making special meals for me versus the rest of the family. I don't want to have to use special tools or implements when preparing my food. It needs to be as NORMAL as possible while accomplishing my goal of healthy living. In my searching, I found a reset-type diet that does all that. In addition, I found that I have friends that have done this diet and were very pleased with the results.

So, for the month of October, I will be trying the Whole 30 diet. I have not been paid by this company to write this blog. I'm not receiving anything free from them. I am not advocating them over any other method. I did my own research to see if this was something that would fit my lifestyle, and after consulting with my physician, decided to try this method. If you are looking for a healthier lifestyle, please consult your physician before doing so to see what they recommend.

I do, however, invite you to join me on my journey to healthier living. As the name suggests, this plan lasts for 30 days. The goal is to reset your body by eliminating dairy, grain, processed foods, sweeteners, and legumes from your eating habits. Many of these foods have proven to be sources of inflammation. By eliminating them and then slowly introducing them back into your eating regimen, you should be able to figure out what is making your feel crappy.

The rules are quite simple and there is no measuring of any kind needed. This includes no weighing or waist band measuring. I like the sounds of that. By not worrying about measurements, you are concentrating more on relearning how to eat healthy and retraining your body on what nutrients it really needs.

I end this post by giving you my current status of health in as scientific description as I can manage:
My body constantly feels like it's on fire and I have the mobility of a 95 year old. I'm 34. So over the next 4 weeks or so, I will be giving updates on how this goes and what improvements I find.
